Maryann Cocca-Leffler is the author and illustrator of more than 60 books for children.
Raised in a large Italian family in Everett, Massachusetts, Maryann knew from a young age that she wanted to be an artist. As a child, she loved to doodle on anything and everything, and that only grew as she got older -- she even painted a mural on her parents’ garage door when she was a teenager! She attended the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, where she graduated with a BFA in Illustration. For the past 30 years, Maryann has been writing and illustrating children’s books. She has also recently written a play, “Princess K.I.M. The Musical,” based on her Princess Kim series.
Maryann’s Italian background and East Coast upbringing inspired several of her books, including “Wednesday is Spaghetti Day,” “Bus Route to Boston,” and “Clams All Year.” Experiences she’s had with her family and friends have also been the inspiration for many of her other books. Maryann’s books have been the recipient of several awards, including the Florida Reading Association Children’s Book Award, the Hoosier Young Book Award, and a Parent’s Choice Award.
Maryann currently lives in New Hampshire with her husband Eric, daughters Kristin and Janine, and their dog Bianca. She has recently joined the Babl Books team as Director of Acquisitions.
