Valeri Gorbachev is an artist and author/illustrator of children’s books. Born and raised in Ukraine, Valeri has enjoyed art for as long as he can remember, with his preferred medium being watercolor and ink. He studied art at Kiev Art College and, after graduating, worked as a cartoonist at Perets, one of biggest cartoon magazines in the USSR. He illustrated 40 children’s books, half of which he also wrote, in the Ukraine before immigrating to the United States in 1991. Since Valeri has been in the United States, he has created over 50 children’s books and hopes to continue making more in the future. His books have been translated into many different languages and are beloved by children around the world.
Having lived in both Ukraine and the United States, Valeri has been influenced by both Russian and American art and culture, and he intends for his characters to show the similarities between people all over the world. Valeri’s books have been awarded the Parent's Guide Children's Media Award, the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Award, included in the Kansas State Reading Recommended List, and nominated for many other honors.
